About us

BAC is an inter-institutional Research Group on Bibliometrics. Current participating institutions are: Fundació Catalana per a la Recerca i la Innovació (FCRI), Institució Centres de Recerca de Catalunya (iCERCA), Barcelona Biomedical Research Parc (PRBB) and Pasqual Maragall Foundation for Research on Alzheimer (FPM).

The research group BAC was created in the middle 80’s by Dr. Camí who realized that bibliometric indicators could be of help in managing the Institut Municipal d’Investigació Mèdica (IMIM). Earlier publications on bibliometric issues appeared a few years later, followed by a series of studies on biomedicine which became the one of the main research lines of the BAC.

The practical mind in finding solutions that led to the creation of BAC, remains as one of our values.

Main research lines

Our commitment to providing practical solutions plays an important role in the definition of the two research lines of BAC:
  1. Development and improvement of methods and processes for bibliographic data normalization and data exploitation
  2. Development and improvement of bibliometric assessment methods

BAC aims to tackle the problems deriving from the quality of source data, while providing solutions to the limitations hampering benchmarking exercises.

  • BAC and Thomson-Reuters became Bibliometric Partners in 2011.
  • Development of a web tool to assist in the unification of addresses, the first verison saw the light in 2006 and the second generation in 2010.

Our Values

In the development and application of methods and indicators in bibliometric assessment exercises.
